Legacy & Impact NEws

SPORT

Through the event we look to increase participation in Paddle Sports and promote active lifestyles that support health & wellbeing.
We’ll be achieving this by giving opportunities for people to try paddle sports, inspiring school children through interactive stadium excursions when slalom athletes are practising and engaging Championship attendees with health and wellbeing initiatives.
We’re also delighted to provide space for wellbeing initiatives, such as sun cancer prevention and health checks.

Community

By involving local schools, businesses and First nations communities we will create lasting local, state and country-wide benefits.
We’re working with local Dharug leaders, to ensure authentic representation and connection with the traditional owners of the land & waters on which it is held. This includes Welcome to Country, a water ceremony and demonstration of traditional Nawi building.
To create lasting social & economic impact for Western Sydney and Australia, we’re working with local organisations to deliver the event and provide opportunities for them to engage with attending teams, officials and spectators both onsite and through our event platform, Paddle Connect.

SUSTAINABILITY

Our event will demonstrate sustainability in action. We’ll inspire attendees by promoting the use of public transport, and through clear recycling and waste initiatives. Water refill stations will be provided and attendees encouraged to bring their own bottles.
Behind the scenes, sustainability has been considered in our procurement; prioritising reuse and circular waste solutions as well as sourcing renewable energy.
To inspire new habits and create impact beyond the event, education – through daily newsletters, onsite activations and online training – is being given on a number of sustainability topics, including the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, recycling and smart water use.

Measurement & Reporting

Demonstrating a legacy-driven approach to venues and events, we’re collaborating with Griffith University to measure and report on our social impact whilst meeting stakeholder deliverables.
This process is also contributing to our delivery of Paddle Forward 32 - Paddle Australia’s ambitious blueprint of social, environmental and economic sustainability that’s strengthening our thriving ecosystem that will elevate paddling to new heights, inspire countless people to join our journey and leave a lasting impact that goes far beyond the water.
