NSW is preparing to make a splash on the global stage once again, with the Sydney 2025 ICF Slalom World Championships set to begin in a few days’ time, further cementing New South Wales’ reputation as a premier destination for world-class sporting events.
Almost exactly 25 years on from Sydney 2000, icons from the paddling world met with icons of the Australian animal world at a launch event ahead of the competition at Penrith Whitewater Stadium from 29 September - 4 October 2025.
Athletes from 40 nations have begun arriving in Sydney, including up to 10 competitors from countries including India, Kenya, Turkey and Singapore who will participate in the Championships as part of the ICF’s Talent Identification Program, promoting inclusivity and building sustainable pathways for the growth of paddle sports.
With all eyes on Western Sydney, the World Championships are set to deliver a major economic boost to the region, with up to 20,000 spectators expected over six action-packed days.
Tickets are still available for the ICF Slalom World Championships Sydney 2025 and can be purchased here.
Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said:
“25 years on from the Sydney Olympics, champion athletes from around the globe will once again descend on our world-class venue Penrith Whitewater Stadium.
“Just as those Games have had a lasting legacy for the people of New South Wales, so too will these championships, bringing far-reaching economic benefits and inspiring a new generation of participants and fans to get out and get active in their own backyard.”
Federal Sport Minister Anika Wells said:
“With the Brisbane 2032 Games on the horizon, I’m proud the Albanese Government has helped make the Championships possible contributing $1.2 million towards staging the event.
“The partnership between the Australian and New South Wales Governments enables us to host another world class spectacle, bringing economic, social and community sporting benefits to our country.
These events are all about the athletes, so I encourage everyone to get out and support them on home soil.”
ICF President Thomas Konietzko said:
“It is a true honour to celebrate one of the most prestigious events in our sport right here at the iconic Penrith Whitewater Stadium – 25 years after it first captivated the world during the Olympic Games Sydney 2000. This world-class venue is a legacy of those amazing Games and will once again set the stage for the planet’s best paddlers to compete, inspire, and make history.
Thanks to the great support of the NSW Government and Australian Government and the incredible efforts of Paddle Australia, the Penrith City Council, our sponsors, and dedicated volunteers, this championship promises to be a spectacular showcase of athleticism, passion, and international unity. As the world watches, may this event not only crown champions but also ignite new dreams and strengthen the global canoeing community.”

“Thank you to the support of the Australian Government, New South Wales Government and our event partners who have been instrumental in helping us deliver, what we anticipate, will be the best ICF Slalom World Championships for athletes and fans.
“Tickets are still available and we encourage people to come along to Penrith for a great family day out”
Noemie Fox, Australian Olympic gold medalist said:
“We’ve been dreaming and waiting for this moment for a long time. The nerves and pressure are there, but I really want to channel that excitement.

“Sometimes you don’t realise how lucky you are, but this whole experience has reinformed my love for this venue. It’s one of the best in the world.
“And I’m proud to showcase Penrith to the world, and I can’t wait to get out there and make our community proud.”
