Sports and climate change are closely linked - while sports contribute to emissions, they are also vulnerable to climate impacts.
United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals aimed at protecting the planet, improving lives, and building a better future for everyone. To see more about the UNSDG, watch here the World’s to do list.

As of April 2025, the International Canoe Federation and UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training And Research) are collaborating to enhance worldwide emergency preparedness and foster sustainability through sports, especially paddling.
As part of this initiative, an online course is now available to further engage athletes and communities in driving positive change. The Sports and Sustainability training by UNITAR offers a unique opportunity for anyone passionate about sports to explore how their passion can drive positive environmental and social change within their sporting organisations or grassroot clubs.
The training shows how sustainability fits into the sports world, from cutting down waste, saving energy, making events more eco-friendly, and promoting responsible consumption. The course also touches on big topics like climate action, equality, and how sport connects to global goals, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Plus, with the course being free and accessible online, it’s an easy way to build knowledge, show how sport can help build a better future and align personal values.
